Goodbyeeeee

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my six months as an accidental journalist.

If you’d asked me in February 2020 whether I’d be spending the first half of 2021 producing a daily blog and a weekly podcast, I’d have thought you were mad.

But life got quieter when demand for coach travel evaporated and I discovered that blogging and podcasting were skills I seemed to be able to acquire relatively quickly. (this isn’t a cue for you to list all my gaffes and bloomers in the comments)

The fact that it’s possible for someone like me to produce something like this without any professional skills or training is something of a modern miracle.

How it used to be…

How it used to be…

But I’m about to start a ‘proper job’ and I need to focus on it.

So my last* post here will be on Friday 17th September, prior to starting at Transport for London on Monday 20th September.

Can I just thank you all so much for having made the last six months so enjoyable. Your willingness to jump in with comments and responses; the many emails and private messages I’ve received following up on detailed points of policy and the conversations it’s stimulated - all have been uplifting during what could otherwise have been a rather gloomy period as my business folded and the pandemic maintained its grip.

Over the next couple of days, I’ll look back at the last six months of Freewheeling.

* Of course, it may not be the last. Who knows what the future holds? Perhaps it’s better to say the ‘last for now’
