I’m going to London!

Well, not literally. I’m already here. In fact, I was born here and am one of those people you almost never meet - a passionate Londoner who grew up here. (Don’t worry: I haven’t got too much tunnel vision: I have spent six years living elsewhere)

In general, London seems to have an exchange programme with the rest of the world. People who love it most seem to be people - like my wife - who arrived in their twenties, while lifelong Londoners complain about the noise and the traffic.

Well, hopefully, I’ll soon be in a position to make my small contribution to dealing with the noise and the traffic.

That’s because next month I’m joining Transport for London as Innovation Director.

I’m thrilled.

London is the greatest city in the world, but that is a status that has to be earned. In my new role, I’ll get to lead a team of superb people doing everything we can to ensure that London is as great as it possibly can be.

I’m under no illusions about the scale of the challenge as London recovers from Covid, transport demand is rebuilt, the world of mobility innovation spins faster and we push to hit net zero.

But these challenges are what also makes it a hugely exciting time to be joining.

I will post later in the week about the future of Snap but, for now, I’m focused on the future.
